From Jules:
1.Favorite Field Hockey Memory? Why?
  • Winning the European championship with the Dutch U16’s after winning in shootouts in the semi finals against Belgium.

2.What was your most exciting recruiting experience?
  • The most exciting thing about recruiting for me was getting to see a ton of beautiful campuses and city’s. Meeting amazing people and learning about myself at the same time.

3.Why are you playing field hockey in college?
  • Because field hockey has been a part of my life for so long and I’m nowhere near ready for this part of my life to be over. I love this sport and I can’t wait to play it for four more years.

4.What have you done this summer to prepare?
  • Northwestern has an amazing staff with talented strentgh and conditioning coaches who have given me workouts, runs and recovery drills to keep me in shape. I will also participate in USA Nexus training which will be good to keep my goalie skills in shape.

5.If you could give one piece of advice to younger girls who want to play field hockey in college, what would it be?
  • I would say that to succeed in hockey there are many things you have to do. But there is one thing you need more than anything: joy. When you love field hockey that means you want to devote your time to getting better whether it be on the field or watching games and learning new skills from that. My succes in hockey has come mostly from the fact that I put on my pads every day with a smile and I work hard because I want to prove to myself that all my hard is not for nothing.

6.Who was the most influential person in high school?
  • I came into St.John’s school as a junior. Two days into preseason I met a member of the training staff: Michael Kleinstub. He soon became one of my favorite people at SJS. Every day he not only looked out for my physical wellbeing but he also looked out for my mental health. He always pushes me to give 100% but to also be smart. Guiding me to be the best athlete and person I can be. Mr. Kleinstub showed me what a true friend looks like and I will cherish that forever.

7.Favorite post practice/ game snack?
  • My absolute favorite post practice snack is a Gogo squeeze. However my teammates will know that I never make it through a hot summer game without chugging at least one Gatorade.

8.What pre game rituals do you use to hype yourself up before a game?
  • Gosh after 13 years of this sport I’ve had many rituals however I have to be honest and say none of them have stayed with me. Before a game the most important thing for me is a good warmup, getting my body ready helps me get my mind ready!

9.What made you want to be a college field hockey player?
  • I have always loved the concept of being able to combine my education with my athletic career. This was not an option in the Netherlands and that is why I wanted to be a college field hockey player.

10.What was one of the toughest experiences?
  • Stepping away from the Dutch national team pipeline was very difficult for me. I felt as if I was on the road to success and then my family moved to America and I had to start from Scratch. It wasn’t easy but as time went by America became my home and I would never regret my decision to move here.

11.Year you began playing field hockey? How?
  • I started when I was five so that was 2011. I started off playing soccer at 4 years old but my sister played field hockey and bring her little sister I wanted to be exactly like her so I switched to field hockey when I was five and have loved it ever since
From Tina:
Favorite Jules Moment (old) / why?:
  • Old is relative :). Jules only has played us for 2 years joining us in the Fall of her Junior year. My favorite 'old' memory of Jules is her first major tournament. She was uncommitted and one of the few uncommitted GK's in her class at that time. To start with, we were playing on grass and she was APPALLED that we played on grass at all :). Second, she was very surprised by how many coaches were there just sitting there and watching her. She had a very quick introduction to recruiting. But she caught on quick

Favorite Jules moment (new)/ why?
  • Jules was a great leader for her U19 team this spring. She has a unique ability to control the outcome of games. Through her communication, drive, skill and ability to organize, she finds a way to help her team the best she can from the back. She was phenomenal this spring in our RCC - BOG - NCC tournaments. She's a great example of the impact strong on-the-field leadership can have on a teams success. We know great things are ahead for Jules.

Story we will forever tell about Jules:
  • We had a shootout against Gateway at RCC's in 2023. We put Jules in the cage. All 5'11 of her stood in the cage, touching the top bar waiting to start. The first girl went...jules just walked out, closed space and just completely shut this girl down. I don't think the girl even looked up and saw Jules before she took it. Immediately, it was as if the other team just lost any momentume or confidence they had a chance of winning this shootout against her. It was a fun moment.

Favorite Jules recruiting moment/ why?
  • Jules was brand new to recruiting and to American Universities. It was interesteing watching her figure out how this worked and figure out what she wanted. It was a very raw recruiting expericnce. She took her time and figured it out the way it should occur. The thing we will always talk about it not her process, but the end and how she said Yes and No to her final two places.

First memory of Jules / why?
  • I remember when Jules showed up to a practice to 'check it out'. It was not a good practce at all. When she showed up that Fall and joined our team, she was a great addition to our GK squad for challenging each of them. She had a differnet style, but was a very effective goalkeeper. She was a welcomed addition to our organization.
